Consumer Reports wants USDA to release information about Salmonella testing for chicken products

Consumer Reports says the USDA should release information about Salmonella testing methods for some chicken products that it first deemed adequate but under the Trump Administration has said are not accurate enough.

In a letter to Agriculture Secretary Mindy Brashears the nonprofit consumer advocacy group said the department’s delay of enforcement of testing activities of not-ready-to-eat (NRTE) breaded stuffed chicken products is unfounded. Such chicken products are particularly problematic because packaging generally shows photos of what appears to be ready-to-eat products, encouraging consumers to not cook the products throughly enough to kill Salmonella.
