Continue the journey in the kitchens of central Italy with ITA TALKS

The cycle of meetings dedicated to Italian regional cuisines continues in New York, promoted by the Italian Foreign Trade Agency (ICE), as part of the initiatives that accompany the recognition of Italian cuisine as an Immaterial Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. The new appointment, entitled “Central Italy”, took place yesterday at the headquarters of the ICE.

The meeting was dedicated to the gastronomic traditions of Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria, with the aim of telling the American public the richness and diversity of the agri-food productions of these territories.

The evening was opened by Raimondo Lucariello, Head of Food and Wine Activities for the United States of the ICE. In comparison, Tommaso Conte, founder of D’Abruzzo NYC; Giovanni Caveggia, Portfolio Management Director of Empson USA; Nicola Fedeli, executive chef of the Fasano restaurant and ambassador of ALMA – The International School of Italian Cuisine; Dario Mennini, Vice President Sales of Tuscan Dream; Olga Urbani, owner and manager of Urbani Truffles; and Lorenzo Tedeschi, General Manager North America by Di Marco USA.

The initiative is part of a journey of deepening that, month after month, is bringing to New York the different Italian gastronomic identities. As Lucariello explained, “we have realized an activity dedicated to the central regions – Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria – continuing the path of deepening of the regional kitchens that we are developing in New York. The goal is to promote greater knowledge of Italian PDO and IGP products among importers, distributors and American journalists who participate in our monthly meetings”.

During the evening were presented products and specialties that represent different but complementary traditions. “We have told news as the pinsa, next to great classics such as the Abruzzo arrosticini”, said Lucariello. “There was room for the Tuscan culinary tradition through the contribution of one of the most representative Italian chefs in New York, Nicola Fedeli, and for the experience of Olga Urbani, protagonist in the diffusion of Italian truffle on international markets”.

Alongside producers and industry operators, the event involved importers and distributors active in the United States, helping to build a choral tale of Italian food and wine. The wines selected for the combinations were presented by Giovanni Caveggia, while the presence of companies and professionals from different realities offered an overview of the Italian excellence already available on the American market.

“All these protagonists have been gathered to represent the great variety of Italian products in the United States, which can now be purchased, known and appreciated by an increasingly wide audience.”.
