Mozzarella di Bufala Campana to shine at Alimentaria food fair in Barcelona

A new gastronomic partnership will take center stage at Alimentaria (March 23–26), one of the world’s leading international agri-food exhibitions, held in Barcelona. The initiative brings together two flagship European products: Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO and Jamón Jabugo PDO, a premium Spanish cured ham from the Sierra de Huelva, made from free-range Iberian pigs.

Promoted by their respective Protection Consortia, the collaboration goes beyond a simple tasting. It is positioned as a dialogue between territories, production traditions, and culinary cultures, united by a strong identity and EU recognition. The initiative aims to promote the concept of certified quality to an international audience, create a distinctive experience, and reinforce the role of Protected Designations of Origin as pillars of the European agricultural economy.

Two joint events are scheduled during the fair. The Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO will be hosted within the Campania Region collective (Hall 2 – Stand C61 and D61). Under the title “Tapas or Aperitivo, the Perfect Pairing: Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO and Jamón Jabugo PDO,” the first session will take place on March 24 at 12:30 pm in the Campania Region Talk Area, followed by a second event on March 25 at the same time at the Jabugo PDO stand, involving buyers and producers. Tastings will feature original pairings that contrast the fresh, milky character of mozzarella with the complex aromatic profile of Iberian ham.

On March 23 at 12:00 pm, mozzarella will also be showcased in a dedicated tasting focused on its territory of origin. Later that evening, it will headline an off-site event in central Barcelona promoted by the Campania Region.
