Scientists have warned about the risks posed by small-scale production of traditional foods after studying a fatal Listeria outbreak.
From 2020 to 2022, 10 people were sick and three died in an outbreak of listeriosis in Austria. It was traced to a traditional southern European dairy item known as Kajmak, a lightly salted cream product. Customers of Käserei Gloggnitz were mainly local Balkan restaurants, delicatessen counters, and small bakeries.
