The Chianti Wine Consortium will soon embark on a three-week tour across China, aiming to bring the spirit of Chianti DOCG to the heart of Asia’s largest wine market. The Chianti Academy 2025—a structured educational programme blending wine training with cultural exchange—will run from August 22 to September 20, stopping in four strategic cities: Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Beijing.
“The Chinese market is both a challenge and a major opportunity,” said Giovanni Busi, president of the Chianti Wine Consortium. “With the Chianti Academy, we’re going beyond traditional promotion—we’re cultivating ambassadors who can convey the authenticity of Tuscany and its wines.”
Each stop will offer a two-day curriculum featuring classroom-style lectures, guided tastings, and open dialogue. The sessions are designed to provide an immersive introduction to Chianti DOCG, pairing the region’s wines with local culinary traditions to foster deeper appreciation and market understanding.
Prominent figures from China’s wine education sector will lead the programmes:
In Guangzhou, Jerry Chen, educator at the Asia Wine Service & Education Centre and WSET diploma holder.
In Shanghai, Stephen Li, among the first Chinese professionals to earn a WSET diploma, with over a decade of experience in wine education.
In Chengdu, Marshall Chen, manager of southwest China’s largest wine training centre.
In Beijing, Jeff Gong, director of WineITA.com, and a certified sommelier with the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS).
The initiative is part of the Consortium’s broader internationalisation strategy. By targeting wine professionals, importers, and opinion leaders, the Academy aims to position Chianti more firmly in key export markets. It also seeks to create long-term engagement by bridging Tuscan wine heritage with local tastes and gastronomic traditions.
