Authorities meet in Korea to discuss food regulation

Regulators from 14 countries, including the United States and Canada, met in South Korea recently to discuss issues ranging from digitalization to food safety management.

The Asia-Pacific Food Regulatory Authority Summit (APFRAS) was held in Seoul from May 11 to 12. APFRAS was established in 2023 and Korea is the chair country until 2028. Participating nations included the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Chile, China, Singapore, and Thailand.

One of the goals was to move beyond information sharing toward achieving tangible outcomes and positioning Asia-Pacific regulatory frameworks as a leading force in shaping global standards. APFRAS member countries agreed to pursue observer status at the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
