BSE case prompts the Philippines to ban UK beef

The Philippines has banned beef imports from the United Kingdom following detection of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in a cow in Scotland.

The action was taken based on a report submitted by Dr. Christine Middlemiss, chief veterinary officer at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and delegate of the United Kingdom, to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), about a case of BSE, also known as mad cow disease, in Scotland.
